The Start Process

This is something that I never imagined myself doing. From a young age I have always been involved in educating children in one way or another, whether it be my own family, or summer school programs, or after school programs, etc. When I think about it, I was always involved with helping troubled youth. The ones that gave people a hard time were often under my care. I didn’t mind at all, in fact I enjoyed it. At the end of the programs, I was often asked why those kids got better and listened to me more than the other teachers. I often told them that I didn’t know. It was just natural for me to just enjoy my time with them and work on things together.

In Japan, now my 12th year, I have come to realize that this is something that I have a passion for. Japan is very different from America, where I’m from, but children are all the same. No matter where you are around the world, children have the same curiosity. I often went to orphanages to volunteer, which made me want to come up with something to help them more. This NPO is one way.

We are still in the development stages, but we are moving forward at ta steady pace. I will do my best to keep this blog updated to keep you informed of our progress in development.

これは、自分でも想像していなかったことです。私は幼い頃から、自分の家族、サマースクールプログラム、アフタースクールプログラムなど、何らかの形で子どもの教育に携わってきました。考えてみれば、私はいつも問題を抱えた若者を助けることに携わっていたのです。人に苦労をかけるような子は、よく私の世話になっていました。私は全く気にならなかったし、むしろ楽しかった。プログラムが終わると、「どうしてあの子たちは他の先生たちよりもよくなって、私の言うことを聞くようになったのか」とよく聞かれました。私はよく「わからない」と答えました。ただ、彼らと一緒にいる時間を楽しみ、一緒に物事に取り組むことが、私にとっての自然なことだったのです。

12年目になる日本では、これが自分の情熱につながるものだと実感するようになりました。日本は私の出身地であるアメリカとは大きく異なりますが、子どもはみんな同じです。世界中どこにいても、子どもたちの好奇心は同じです。私はよく孤児院にボランティアに行くのですが、その時にもっと彼らのためになることを考えたいと思うようになりました。このNPOもその一つです。

まだまだ発展途上ではありますが、着実に前進しています。このブログで、開発の進捗状況をお知らせできるよう、頑張ります。
